Compare electrical specifications and travel

Voltage, current to transmit, conductor number and cross-section, usable length and mounting must be compatible within the same part number.

The table ranges point to a series. The part number then defines the cable-length combination, bracket and permissible electrical conditions.

Checks before replacement

Permissible power: check wound or unwound state

Permissible power can differ according to how much cable remains on the drum. Use the part-number values and conditions specified by the manufacturer.

The 700 series publishes values for wound and unwound cable. The ratio varies by part number : it is not a factor applicable to the whole range.

For the quotation, state the electrical load and the length that will remain wound during operation.

Single-spiral or multi-spiral

With single-spiral winding, turns are arranged side by side. Compare the dimensions and electrical specifications of the CR 1200 with the installation constraints.

With multi-spiral winding, cable is stacked in layers. Check capacity for the actual cable diameter and the operating conditions for the part number.

The bracket depends on the conductor-length combination, not conductor count alone

Two brackets are available on the CR series. The S1 has hole centres of 55 by 80 mm, the S2 75 by 100 mm. Moving from one to the other does not follow a simple rule: on the CR 15, 16x1,5 at 34 m uses S2 while the same cable at 25 m uses S1. The bracket is specified for each part number, and determines the chassis drilling pattern.

Installation direction

Horizontal or vertical

A suspended cable carries its own weight over its entire length. The LCR/VD series is designed for this and is not simply an LCR with a reinforced spring: it is a more limited range.

Horizontal and vertical lengths cannot be transferred directly. With 4x10 mm², travel changes from 80 m horizontally to 40 vertically. A notable exception: 7x1,5 mm² reaches 80 m vertically compared with 45 horizontally.

The vertical cables specify a breaking load. This value must not be used as a permissible operating or pulling load: have the limits applicable to the cable and its mounting confirmed.

Transmission and measurement

Signals, fieldbus and sensors

CR series accept CANbus, Ethernet and Profinet as options, subject to approval — the manufacturer does not automatically guarantee digital signal integrity through a slip ring assembly.

For a hybrid cable or an industrial network, specify the protocol, connection diagram and cable part number. The tables distinguish servomotor constructions, multi-conductor cables and CANbus or Profinet connections; their specifications are not interchangeable.

What to send for a quotation

  • For a replacement: full part number, photograph of the nameplate and views of the existing installation.
  • Voltage, actual current and number of conductors.
  • Whether a neutral conductor is distributed.
  • Travel length, and the amount of cable that will remain wound during operation.
  • Horizontal application or vertical downward travel, including height.
  • Bus protocol, where applicable.
  • Achievable drilling centres.
  • Water exposure: series range from IP 48 to IP 66.
