Replacing an existing reel or looking for a specific configuration? Start with the available part number, then check the specifications of the complete assembly and its installation layout. For a replacement, the existing mountings matter from the outset.
Known part number, replacement or new installation
I have a DEMAC part number
Note the full code, including its suffixes, and search for it on the website. A family designation such as AG or A4 is not enough to identify a configuration.
I am replacing a reel
For a replacement, send the reel’s serial number, which is required to identify the unit to be replaced. It appears on the label; otherwise, see the illustrated locations on the Contact page. Also photograph the connections and mountings. Specify the exit direction, usable travel and constraints of the existing installation.
I am looking for a configuration
Specify the number and type of hoses, whether a cable is included, and the movement to be followed. Then compare the corresponding families.
I need four hoses
Compare the A4, S4 and M4 solutions: twin-hose assemblies, separate hoses or independent movements.
For four hoses: A4 — two twin hoses · S4 — four separate hoses · M4 — two independent springs. Compare these three configurations.
Information to gather
1. Part number and installation layout
Reel code, machine make and model, exit direction, mounting position, available dimensions and mountings.
2. Circuits and hose/cable assembly
Number of hydraulic lines, twin or separate hoses, fluid conveyed. For a cable: number of conductors and type of signals.
3. Operating conditions
Flow rate and pressure of each circuit; voltage, current and duty cycle for electrical applications. State the values actually required of the reel.
4. Travel and usable length
Movement to be followed and routing of the hose/cable assembly. Distinguish total hose length from the usable length specified for the part number.
5. Guiding and mounting
Reel position, pulleys, guide, bend radius and suspended mass. Vertical downward travel must be assessed for the configuration concerned.
6. Environment
Ambient and fluid temperatures, water, dust and corrosion. If an ATEX zone is involved, provide its classification and your installation requirements.
Check the complete assembly, not just the drum
Pressure: use the permissible limit of the complete reel, hose and connections for the intended operating conditions. The pressure stated for the reel alone does not automatically validate the fitted hose.
Space and travel: both must be compatible. A model that fits in the same location does not necessarily offer the same usable length.
Electrical: check voltage, current, conductors, signal, protection and mounting position together. Permissible power with wound and unwound cable must be read for the specific part number; no single factor applies to the entire range.
Replacement: visual similarity or a machine brand does not prove interchangeability. Have the part number and its options confirmed.

Compare configurations before dimensions
Two reels may handle the same number of lines without using the same hose/cable assembly. This initial selection points to the appropriate data sheets; drawings and part-number tables then allow the mounting to be checked.

Two lines: flow rate also distinguishes the families
Example for the AG and A2 families in the general catalogue. These maximum flow rates do not replace checking the diameter, hose, connections and operating conditions.

A higher flow rate does not mean a higher pressure. Choose the family matching the required flow rate, then check the permissible pressure of the complete assembly. Access hydraulic data sheets and part numbers.
Frequently asked questions before choosing
Does the same side plate size guarantee the same length?
No. The tables distinguish total length and usable length according to hose diameter and construction. Compare the complete row, not just the drum size.
How do you choose between a right-hand and left-hand model?
Note the full code and compare the exit direction with the diagram in the data sheet. For a replacement, send the serial number and a photo of the installation; do not reverse a configuration based on visual similarity alone.
Is the forklift’s lift height enough?
No: the reel position and hose routing also matter. Use the measuring diagram on the Forklift kits page and state the mast configuration.
What about ATEX or custom-built configurations?
State the installation requirements in your initial enquiry. Certification applies to a defined configuration, not automatically to an entire family. Prepare an ATEX enquiry.
