The DEMAC brand

Demac manufactures hose reels, cable reels and rotary unions for industry and lifting applications. A single factory in Italy, and a range built over forty years around one core business.

GEDO France distributes the brand and handles technical enquiries, including configurations outside the catalogue.

A family business that started in a home

This information is published by Demac in its catalogue.

The story begins in Cisliano, a village near Milan, in the late seventies. Domenico Varano was then working for a manufacturer of forklifts and telescopic handlers, where he began developing his own technical solutions.

In 1981, he founded his own company and set it up in his home so that he could devote all his time to it. He called it DEMAC.

In 1987, the company moved to Cerello, into a 400 m² facility. It was there that the company experienced its first substantial development in the early nineties.

In 1995, growth called for a larger, better-organised building in Corbetta.

In 2005, Domenico Varano and his children Fabio and Laura established a factory in the industrial area of Magenta, most recently expanded in January 2016. This is the current production site.

What this history explains about the catalogue

Two features of the range become clearer when you know its origins, and both matter to buyers.

The founder came from the forklift and telescopic handler sector. This explains the catalogue’s extensive coverage of reels for mobile machinery — four-, five- and six-line families, Compact versions for masts and combinations with an electrical line — where many manufacturers stop at workshop reels.

The company has remained focused on one core business. Demac manufactures neither pumps, cylinders nor valves: only equipment that reels and rotates. This focus accounts for the depth of its range — twenty-seven hydraulic hose reel families where a general supplier offers three or four.

Italian manufacturing

Production is integrated at the Magenta site, and the catalogue carries the statement Made in Italy. Technical drawings for each family are available on request in PDF and STEP 3D formats, allowing a design office to integrate the reel into its digital model before ordering.

What the range covers

Family Scope
Hydraulic hose reels for machinery 1 to 6 lines, up to 700 bar and 49 m
Workshop and fluid hose reels Air, water, oil, diesel, grease, welding gases
Combined hose and cable reels Hoses and cable on a single drum
Electrical cable reels 1 to 450 A, up to 100 m
Rotary unions and sensors 2 and 4 lines, travel and angle measurement

Custom-built solutions are part of the business

This is how the company began: Domenico Varano started by developing solutions that did not yet exist. Demac still builds bespoke reels — lengths outside the catalogue, unusual combinations of lines, specific materials and motorisation.

And ATEX certification of an individual unit can cover a one-off unit under Directive 2014/34/EU, an option few suppliers offer.

Why choose GEDO

Technical advice before ordering. The Demac catalogue is detailed, and its pitfalls are not always obvious: the assembly’s pressure limit depends on the hose, bend radius can rule out certain combinations, and the slip ring assembly is a wear component. We understand these issues.

A single point of contact for the reel, hose, cable, fittings and guiding accessories — components that cannot be selected independently of one another.

Handling custom-built requirements, including ATEX certification of individual units, together with the manufacturer.

GEDO France also distributes other reel brands at enrouleurs.gedo.fr.
